Sailing for Kids

Beginners Sailing is a fun introductory, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7-12 years-old. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience or club membership to participate.

Our Beginners Sailing Course is exactly that – there for people to learn to sail! With a focus on fun and safety, our experienced instructors will guide you through the most basic steps, all under the watchful eye of support boats and a tower, to give you the best experience possible.

We often get asked is this just for kids and the answer is no – this is open for anyone! We have had people complete the course aged from 6 to 60. And even better, you don’t need to provide your own boat – we will provide you with a boat and life jacket, all you need to do it be there!

Many of our graduates have gone on to purchase their own boat when they felt comfortable, however this is not essential. A number have finished the course and then joined in and are currently crewing (and winning!) on other boats. All that it took was the first step, which as always, is seemingly the hardest.

We will help guide you through rigging the boat, capsize recovery, sailing at all angles, and reading the weather. Even on days when the weather isn’t favourable, we still get wet and have fun, as well as learning knotwork. The course runs for six, 2.5 hour sessions on Sunday mornings in December and January.

For advanced students, they may wish to engage in our ‘Sail Faster’ courses, aimed at taking your sailing to the next level. Through careful on and off water tuition, our experienced coaches will show you have to gain that racing edge, beginning with fine tuning your boat, reading race flags, and advanced tactics on the water. No two races are the same, so the key is to get the most out of every second on the water. We can show you how!
